Wooster to host Witt, renew rivalry

With wins this past week over Wabash College and Hiram College, the Wooster basketball team sewed up its sixth straight conference title and clinched home-court advantage throughout the NCAC Tournament. However, the Scots will have plenty to play for when the arch-rival, Wittenberg University Tigers visit the Timken Gymnasium to renew one of the fiercest rivalries in Div. III. (more…)

Student Artist Spotlight: Red Wire talks

One great thing about the Wooster music scene is how much variety there is. One group which exemplifies this trend is Red Wire. Formed in September of 2008, this group of five seniors has an interesting, dynamic sound.
“I’d describe it as progressive rock,” said Ginny Kincaid ’10, who plays guitar and sings, “But it’s not, really. I mean, we aim for like, high energy rock, but some of our songs are really complicated musically. We have a lot of music theory going on, ‘cause we have a lot of really musical people.” (more…)

Visiting professor shares history of Northeast India

Rakhal Purkayastha, Visiting Fulbright Scholar Professor of History, presented a history of Northeast India to the campus community on Tuesday.
Considered to be one of the most politically divided areas of South Asia, Purkayastha kept students, faculty, and staff eager to learn more about a region of the world that is not often publicized. (more…)

Switch to new waste removal vendor brings changes

This past Wednesday Waste Management, Wooster’s new waste removal vendors, sent Major Account Representative Scott Colvin and Account Manager Dick Kuralt to give a presentation on the new waste removal processes at the College.
“We want to be more than just the people that pick up your waste,” said Colvin. “We want to establish a relationship with the school and help reduce its waste.” (more…)

Chem professor’s company receives $250,000 grant

ABS materials, the company founded by Associate Professor of Chemistry Paul Edmiston, has received a $250,000 venture grant from JumpStart, which is a Cleveland-based state-funded group that encourages the development of new Ohio technologies. The investment, which is part of a larger $2.4 million capital raise for ABS, will be used to hire additional chemists and increase production of water treatment and purification technologies based on the College’s patented Osorb molecule. Consecutive wins for Scots show improvement in potential

After starting the season 3-9, it looked as if the women’s basketball team was off to another inauspicious start. However, after winning four of its last five, the team’s season is showing glimpses of promise.
With a team-high of 17 points that helped Wooster (7-10, 4-4 NCAC) defeat Earlham College (2-13, 1-5 NCAC) 67-57 last Saturday, Kym Wenz ’10 moved into second place of the women’s basketball team’s all-time scoring list. Last week Wenz became Wooster’s all-time three-point shooter and moved into the second-place position with another three-point shot. (more…)

Swimming and diving ride wave of success

In a dual meet that was originally scheduled for Jan. 8, the Fighting Scots had Hiram College wishing for another snow day. The continued dominance in the pool for the men’s and women’s teams has them riding a wave of success into the end of the season and the NCAC Championships in early February. (more…)

Campus pleased by renovations

Students were welcomed back to campus this semester with the extensive renovations made to Lowry Center. Last month, students were made aware that these changes would take place over winter break.
Lowry Center, which hasn’t received a makeover since the 1960s, was in great need of modernization. The postal center and bookstore now feature a visually appealing look that provides students and faculty with more efficiency when utilizing these two places. One of the most noticeable additions is to the bookstore, which has been expanded to accommodate the increasing number of students who attend the College. (more…)

Now, in 2010, the new decade finds Carpenter and Kapiga continuing their quest for culinary perfection in their traditional, humorous bantering.
