Softball explodes on offense against NCAC

The softball team had an impressive week, winning both games in a doubleheader against conference foe Oberlin College on Wednesday before splitting victories with Kenyon College over the weekend. This stretch kept the Scots on track for their first winning season since 2002. (more…)

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes raises awareness at Wooster

This last Friday, April 2, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes began in Kauke Arch. This event featured students, faculty and staff who volunteered to walk approximately a mile in women’s heels. Some took this to the extreme and proudly displayed their pink, six-inch platform shoes while others claimed their half inch wedge heel counted. Regardless of the height, this event was sponsored to raise awareness about rape, assault and gender violence. (more…)

New art exhibits intrigue campus

The College of Wooster Art Museum is currently showcasing two distinct collections. One, Andy Warhol Photographs, 1975-1986, will be on display for the remainder of the semester. The David and Karina Rilling Collection of African and Oceanic Art will be featured until April 19. (more…)

Growing popularity of cricket mirrored in club achievement

For the first time in Wooster’s cricket history (that dates back to the 1990s,) the College’s cricket team participated in the international Chivnarine Chanderpaul Trophy held in Florida from March 17-21.
The team consisted of 15 players representing Pakistan, Bosnia, India, Nepal, Zimbabwe and the United States. (more…)

Women’s lax starts season 1-2

The Wooster women’s lacrosse team returned from its Spring Break trip in San Antonio, Texas with a record of 1-1 to start the season. On Sunday, March 7 the women defeated the University of Texas-Dallas (0-5) 22-6 but lost 15-10 to Elizabethtown College (2-1) that Tuesday. (more…)

Baseball excels in early season schedule

The Wooster baseball team came into the season ranked No. 2 in Div. III. After 14 games, the team has lived up to its high billing.
With big victories coming against nationally ranked No. 12 Carthage College and No. 7 Kean University, as well as NCAC victories against Ohio Wesleyan University and Kenyon College, the Scots have a lot to be proud of after their trip. (more…)

Black History Month ends with hope for future change

Only a little over a year since the historic election of the nation’s first African American president, the annual tradition of celebrating Black History Month continues to see great changes. Since 1976, the United States has recognized the month of February as a time to acknowledge and remember the contributions made by many famous African Americans throughout history. With February coming to a close, the 2010 black history month saw a monumental new beginning for one of the nation’s most important groups. (more…)

Super-fit provides a rigorous work-out for students

If you’re looking for a fun way to stay in shape on campus, head over to the P.E.C. “hotbox” on Monday and Wednesday nights at 6:15 for Superfit aerobics. The class lasts only an hour and includes 20 minutes of cardio then specific workouts to target and tone certain parts of the body. (more…)

What does SGA do for Wooster students?

Several weeks ago, the College of Wooster Student Government Association held elections for the 2010 calendar year, filling the SGA seats with the students who will be representing the student body.
Abbey Smanik, ’11 will be leading the Student Government Association this year as President, and Hannah Haas, ’12 will be serving as Vice President. In the other Cabinet seats are Leah Inglis ’11 as secretary of Student Affairs, John McGovern ’12 as Secretary of Special Services for the spring semester and Josh Koch ’12 for the fall semester, Estancia Cota ’12 as Secretary of Cultural Affairs and Diversity, myself as secretary of Academic Affairs and David Simpson ’12 as Treasurer. SPORTS SMARTS Rivalry brings out best in both schools

When the Wooster men’s basketball team (14-1 NCAC, 19-5 overall) took on their arch-rival Wittenberg University (10-4, 18-5) last Saturday, the showdown was supposedly all but a formality. Wooster hadn’t lost a game in two months and was set to cruise to an undefeated regular season in conference play. When the Tigers rained on the Scots’ parade harder than the Great Flood of Noah’s Ark, they proved why this rivalry is the most intense in Div. III. (more…)
